Who We Are

The Future Organization for Rural Development (FORD) operates as a legally registered entity under the relevant statutory laws of Uganda. Established with a commitment to advancing rural development, FORD complies with the provisions of the Companies Act, 2012, and operates as a non-profit organization. Its legal status empowers it to engage in activities such as community mobilization, agricultural innovation, climate change mitigation, and economic development initiatives. The organization’s governance structure ensures transparency and accountability, with a Board of Directors providing strategic oversight and an Executive Director handling day-to-day operations. Additionally, FORD collaborates with government bodies such as the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (MAAIF), international development partners, and private stakeholders, ensuring its role as a credible and reliable development partner.

To Promote inclusive rural development by enhancing agricultural productivity, fostering agro-industrialization, and advancing climate-smart and renewable energy solutions. FORD is committed to building capacity, improving livelihoods, and creating sustainable opportunities for rural farmers through innovation, partnerships and empowerment.

1- Enhancing Agricultural Productivity: Focus on improving yields through modern farming techniques, access to quality inputs and innovative technologies.

2-Fostering Agro-Industrialization: Integrate farming with value addition, mechanization, and large-scale production to transform agriculture into a market-driven economy.

3-Advancing Climate-Smart technologies: Promote renewable energy and climate-resilient agricultural practices to mitigate the impacts of climate change

Our Goals

To modernize and transform traditional agriculture into a sustainable, market-oriented and climate-resilient, agro-industrial economy that eradicates poverty, strengthens rural livelihoods, and aligns with Uganda's Vision 2040 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

1- Eradication Of Poverty: Implement programs that directly increase household incomes, reduce inequality and improve access to essential services.

2-Strengthening Rural Livelihoods: Support rural communities with capacity-building initiatives, financial support, and access to markets.

3- Alignment with National and Global Goals: Ensure all initiatives are in harmony with Uganda's Vision 2040 and the SDGs to promote sustainable development at local and global levels

Our Objectives

FORD’s objectives are aligned with national and global development goals, focusing on poverty alleviation, environmental conservation, and economic transformation.

Core objectives include:

1. Introducing high-value crops, such as castor, macadamia, Jatropha, canola oilseed, and camelina oilseed, to diversify rural economies, reduce dependency on traditional subsistence farming, and support the production of biofuels and other value-added products.

2. Massive mobilization of rural farmers is central to advancing agro-industrialization, a transformative approach to modernizing and enhancing traditional agriculture. The strategy integrates industrial processes into farming practices, emphasizing mechanization, value addition, and large-scale production.

3. For equipping farmers with modern tools, techniques, and knowledge, agro-industrialization seeks to boost productivity, enhance the quality of agricultural outputs, and create value-added products for local and international markets.

4. Empowering rural farmers through capacity building, access to innovative technologies, and fostering partnerships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, private investors, and development organizations.

5. Financial support ensures that farmers can adopt innovative technologies, purchase high-quality inputs, and invest in sustainable practices, enabling them to scale up production and reduce risks associated with climate variability. Mobilization efforts focus on equipping farmers with skills, fostering partnerships with government agencies, private investors, and development organizations, and building capacity within farming communities.

6. Transitioning from subsistence farming to an agro-industrial model, rural communities that achieve sustainable economic growth, improve household incomes, and contribute to national and regional food security.

7. Supporting climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies through large-scale afforestation and renewable energy initiatives.

8. Strengthening local capacity through training, education, and access to resources for smallholder farmers.

9. Enhancing partnerships with government bodies, private sector stakeholders, and international development organizations to maximize impact and sustainability.
